Vetiver is a perennial bunchgrass native to India. It has an extensive, matted root system that grows downwards, making it an excellent choice for erosion control. It is grown commercially for the oil extracted from its roots (used mostly in cosmetics), and for its fibrous nature used in ropes and handicrafts.
